The Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sevlid Hurtić, spoke today with representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) about the start of the implementation of a new program worth 12 million euros, financed by the European Union through IPA funds, which will improve housing conditions and care for Roma families throughout BiH in around 15 local communities.
Hurtić met with the resident representative of UNDP in BiH, Renaud Meyer, and Aida Laković Hoso, head of the Sector for Effective Administration, pointing out that the project represents one of the most significant investments aimed at improving the living and housing conditions of the Roma population in BiH.
“Twelve million euros represents significant support and an opportunity to make concrete changes for Roma families throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our goal is to direct the funds to where the needs are greatest and to ensure better and more dignified living conditions for as many people as possible through this program,” said the minister.
He added that it is particularly important that the project will cover around 15 local communities, which will enable support to reach families who need housing the most.
“This is not just an investment in facilities and infrastructure. This is an investment in the dignified life of people. We want Roma families to have a safe home and better living conditions, and this program gives us the opportunity to make concrete progress together with the European Union, the United Nations and local communities,” said Hurtić.
Resident representative of UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Renaud Meyer, emphasized the importance of the joint action of local institutions, the European Union and the United Nations in the implementation of the program.
“Thanks to significant financial support from the European Union, this program provides an opportunity to improve the housing conditions of Roma families and achieve lasting improvements in local communities. UNDP, together with its partners, will work to ensure that the implementation of the project brings concrete and sustainable results,” said Meyer.
The meeting discussed the next steps and preparations for the start of the implementation of the program, and the signing of the contract should be done at the beginning of September, which would create the conditions for starting activities in the field.
