The President of the People and Justice Party, Elmedin Konakovic, confirmed today that the international community is considering postponing the elections in BiH.
He said this before the start of a new meeting on the BiH Election Law.
“I see that this issue is so important to them, they are so aware that this may be the last chance for a serious agreement, that I have heard from several of them that the umbrella authorities of the international community are considering postponing the elections.
“If we feel that there is room for a final agreement, we could even talk about postponing the elections,” Konakovic said. He added that he was not in favor of the idea.
“I am not an advocate of such a situation because I think it could be clear very soon whether there will be an agreement here or not,” he stressed.
It should be reminded that a new round of negotiations on changes to the Election Law is starting in the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegovic also announced the possibility of postponing the October elections.
“It is possible that the elections planned for October will be extended. This would be supported by the international community if it is seen that the negotiators are on the trail of an agreement,” Izetbegovic told reporters before the meeting.
He emphasized that today’s talks are not the last, but that this will be discussed for a long time, that the goal is to reach an agreement in which the international community expresses great support. Commenting on recent statements, Izetbegovic said the model proposed by the HDZ was unacceptable to foreigners.
