Kos: I firmly believe in the European Future of BiH

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović held a meeting with the Commissioner for Enlargement of the European Union Marta Kos, during which they discussed the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the challenges that are slowing down its progress on the European path.

Bećirović emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in the EU, as well as membership in NATO, are strategic goals of our state.

He emphasized that the destructive actions of the former President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik and his closest associates have slowed down the reform processes and endangered the constitutional order of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, thus losing the momentum that Bosnia and Herzegovina had achieved after obtaining candidate status and opening negotiations for EU membership.

Bećirović warned that the continuation of such anti-Dayton and unconstitutional activities poses a threat to peace and stability, and requires a decisive response.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina, the EU and the international community must learn an important lesson from 2025. In the coming period, we must further emphasize the importance of the smooth functioning of two important institutions, namely the Office of the High Representative of the international community and the Constitutional Court of BiH. These two institutions have proven to be key in protecting the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Dayton Peace Agreement,” said Bećirović.

The Member of the BiH Presidency thanked the EU for its continued support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that the foreign policy of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains aligned with the foreign and security policy of the EU.

He emphasized that the protection of the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a fundamental prerequisite for preserving peace and stability in our country, because only by respecting the constitution and laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina can we ensure the efficient functioning of institutions and dynamize our path towards the EU.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos emphasized that she firmly believes in the European future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that the state institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina must be respected.

She encouraged the continuation of reform processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that their implementation is a key prerequisite for the start of accession negotiations with the EU.

Kos said that the European Commission strongly supports the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in strengthening the rule of law and improving institutional functionality, and that she expects a decisive commitment from all political actors to fulfilling European priorities, the Presidency of BiH announced.
