Kristo and Plenkovic sign Agreement on Border Crossings in BiH

The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Borjana Krišto, signed today in Sarajevo with the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, the Agreement between BiH and Croatia on border crossings, which will strengthen bilateral cooperation and ensure conditions for easier crossing of the common state border and for a more efficient system of its control.

Krišto clarified that according to the previous contract from 2013, only two crossings had the status of border inspection station (BIP), while according to the new one, that status has five crossings – Svilaj, Izačić, Kamensko, Bijača and Gradiška. She added that crossings for international road and rail traffic, as well as crossings that are only for residents of border areas, are defined.

“According to this agreement, all border crossings have been moved to a higher category,” Kristo pointed out and stated that there is still work to be done on the implementation of the contract because both sides need to hire additional capacities.

Plenković said that the agreement represents a significant step forward in facilitating the movement of people and goods between the two countries due to the recategorization of crossings.

He emphasized that it is a comprehensive agreement that follows the recent adoption of the Law on Foreigners in Croatia, which facilitated the issuance of long-term visas to BiH citizens.

Plenković expressed his belief that the new arrangement with border crossings will enable further progress in economic exchange, which reached a record four billion euros in 2025.
