Kosovo’s ruling party, Vetevendosje (Self-Determination), led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, is on track to win the parliamentary elections, but not enough to form a government on its own, exit polls showed on Sunday.
According to a TV Klan poll, Kurti’s party is winning 38.2 percent of the vote, the opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo 22.4 percent, and the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo around 20 percent.
Similar results were also shown by polls by the newspapers Expres and Koha.
There are 120 representatives in the Kosovo parliament, 20 of whom are minority – ten Serbs and ten others.
Six Serbian parties competed in the elections, and the strongest, the Serbian List, a sister party of the ruling SNS in Serbia, is supported by official Belgrade.
Kurti, a leftist and Albanian nationalist, came to power in 2021 when the coalition led by Self-Determination won more than 50 percent of the vote, Hina reports.
The Central Election Commission announced that, according to preliminary data, the turnout was 40.04 percent. In the elections four years ago, the turnout was 46.9 percent, Fena writes.
