Kyrgyzstan wants Medics from BiH, but they choose the West

The willingness of students or doctors to study or work in Kyrgyzstan, a country where presidents and governments have been overthrown in three revolutions over the past 15 years, is questionable.

This reaction comes after Kyrgyzstan initiated the conclusion of an agreement with Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for cooperation in medicine. In addition to health education and training, and the exchange of experts, the agreement, among other things, includes cooperation in pharmacy, environmental protection, sanitary protection, and modernization of health care.

Currently, there is no official information on whether students and doctors in BiH are interested in going to Kyrgyzstan.

Medical practice, professional exchanges, and specialization of BiH medical students and doctors are mainly carried out in BiH and Europe.

What does the agreement entail?

Given that BiH does not have a state ministry of health, consent to sign the agreement proposed by Kyrgyzstan was given by two entities, ten cantonals in the entity Federation of BiH (FBiH) and one in the special administrative unit Brcko District.

BiH has signed similar agreements with Turkey, North Macedonia, China, and Qatar. The idea of signing an agreement between BiH and Kyrgyzstan on cooperation in medicine came in March of this year.

Zeljko Samardzija, Ambassador of BiH to Russia, who also covers Kyrgyzstan non-residentially, met in the capital of that country, Bishkek, with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Aibek Moldogaziev.

”People have offered certain memorandums and agreements on cooperation. Every country has the right to accept or reject them. This is completely normal and there is nothing problematic about it,” Samardzija explained.

Samardzija says that the basic task of all diplomats is to work on improving economic, cultural, and other ties.

”As far as I have seen, they are interested. It is a country that would gladly accept foreign students, and would also educate its own students in BiH. We have quite good relations with Kyrgyzstan. It’s true, there have been no high-level visits, but we are working on making them, both in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and all the countries I cover from Moscow,” Samardzija stated, RSE reports.
