The election campaign for the local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina officially begins today and will last for 30 days.
543 political entities are participating in the upcoming local elections, scheduled for Sunday, November 15.

Elections have been called for 64 municipal councils in the Federation of BiH, 56 municipal assemblies in the Republika Srpska, 120 mayors in BiH, 14 city councils in the Federation BiH, seven city assemblies in the RS, 22 mayors in BiH, and members of the Brcko District Assembly of BiH, Vijesti.ba news portal reports.

543 political entities are participating in the local elections, namely 129 political parties, 262 independent candidates, 72 coalitions, nine lists of independent candidates and 71 independent candidates belonging to national minorities.

”A total of 30,809 candidates have been certified for the 2020 local elections. 3,283,194 people are registered in the Central Voters’ List,” said President of Central Electoral Commission Zeljko Bakalar.

As he pointed out, this campaign is special because it is held during the pandemic, and it is necessary that all participants in the election process adhere to the epidemiological measures in force. Bakalar emphasized that the CEC will receive evidence of attempted election fraud until the results are confirmed and forwarded to the competent prosecutor’s offices. The election silence will begin 24 hours before the opening of the polling stations, ie on November 14 at 7.00 am, and will last until their closing.
