Local authorities help alleviate migrants’ life in BiH

A delegation of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Canton Sarajevo (MUPKS) paid a visit to asylum center and distributed aid packages to migrants on Friday in Mostar, some 130 kilometers southwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) capital Sarajevo, MUPKS website said.

During the increased influx of migrants whose number exceeded 3,500 since the beginning of this year, BiH institutions decided earlier in May to maintain a humane attitude towards migrants and opened Asylum Center “Salakovac” in Mostar for 296 asylum seekers, mainly families with children.

The delegation of MUPKS headed by minister Vedran Mulabdichanded the aid packages of nutritional and hygienic items to Red Cross organization, all in order to ease the problems that migrants face.

The gesture is a response on a call made by the Red Cross in order to involve as many cantonal and state institutions as possible in collecting material assistance to migrants, Mulabdic said for MUPKS website.

“I would personally appeal to all institutions to alleviate migrants’ stay by similar activities,” Mulabdic added.

Secretary of Mostar Red Cross Alen Kajtaz praised the aid, stressing that the valuable donation will ease the preparation of meals for 179 migrants and 33 persons given refugee status in BiH, including some 40 children.

At a state-level session, it was agreed earlier in May that the coordination team will coordinate all activities in order to deal with the migrant crisis in a “humane and dignified manner” including strengthening of asylum center capacities as a part of institutions’ Action Plan.
