Locals of the small village of Zorica near Odžak welcomed 16-year-old Emma Mečić, who won a silver medal at the World Paraswimming Championship held in Manchester.

Emma represented Croatia at this championship, but her roots are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she was immediately welcomed upon her return from the Great Britain.

“I did not expect this medal. I trained for more than a year and now the effort paid off,” said Emma.

The welcome that the locals of Zorica gave her was a real surprise.

“I did not expect this. All these people surprised me. Thanks to all of you. Things like this are remembered for a lifetime,” she said.

Locals say that this is the biggest success celebrated in their town.
