The provision on lower prices for public transport in Sarajevo Canton came into force. Individual tickets will be 20 pfennigs cheaper and will amount to 1.40 marks.

The price of a commercial ticket is 2 marks. This is the decision of the Cantonal Government which announced a 5 percent discount on contactless e-cards, as well as a discount for one zone for pupils and students. The decision will be valid until the end of the year. At the same time, in Banja Luka, a new increase in the price of city transport.

The price of an individual ticket is 2 marks and 30 pfennigs, while citizens will have to pay 1.78 marks for a worker’s monthly ticket. The new price list was established at the proposal of the mayor Drasko Stanivukovic, which was preceded by the rejection of SNSD’s request to implement half a million marks per month for public transport from the city budget.

In order to increase the safety of passengers in public transport, the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton has launched a number of projects, one of which is the installation of video surveillance in trams.

“In addition to the fact that another new Sarajevo trolleybus arrived today, I am pleased to say that video surveillance has been installed in all trams,” said Canton Sarajevo Transport Minister Adnan Steta.

Based on all the research conducted by the Ministry of Transport and direct conversations with citizens, one of the three biggest problems that citizens face is safety in public transport.

“We expect that video surveillance will also contribute to faster reactions of the Canton Sarajevo Ministry of Interior in solving all situations, from protecting our citizens, destroying vehicles and property of all of us to finding those who commit violations,” Steta added.

As he pointed out, with the aim of better quality public transport services, the implementation of several projects related to the digitization and modernization of public transport is in progress.
