The Association of Detainees of BiH and the Municipal Association of Detainees Kakanj yesterday in Poljani near Kakanj organized revealing of memorial built in memory of the brutal murder of seven inmates from Poljani, who were killed and burned by members of the military police of the HVO in the woods Klasnica, between Poljani and Kraljeva Sutjeska in 1993.
Within the day of remembrance for the victims of this crime were laid flowers, and besides revealing of the memorial, the newly built maktab in Poljani was opened as well.
President of the Association of Detainees of BiH Jasmin Meskovic emphasized that tortures that inmates went through must never be forgotten and that it is very important to spread the truth about the horrors of the last war.
He said that it is necessary to look at the future, and also to learn from the mistakes of the past that should never repeat.
No one has been prosecuted still for crimes in Poljani, and the locals called on the authorities to prosecute criminals once again.
The construction of memorial was fully funded by the Association of Detainees of BiH.
Zihnija Basic, President of the Association of Detainees of the Municipality of Kakanj said that this day is of great importance for all inmates because any spread of truth and talks about the crime are a step towards a better future.
On the 9th of June 1993 in Poljani were killed Meho Jusic, Nedzad Kadric, Rifet Mehak, Latif Mehmedovic, Mehmedalija, Safet and Fehim Topalovic. The crime was committed against seven unarmed and completely innocent persons, of which three were in advanced age.
