stecakThe portal Mashable made a recommendation of nine localities from the List of World Heritage of UNESCO that their readers should visit. Among the localities are also stećaks from BiH.

This Friday UNESCO added nine new localities to their list: Greece, Spain, Iran, India, Turkey, China, Micronesia and Great Britain, as well as the stećaks that are located in BiH, Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia.

“This recommendation includes several necropolises from 12th to 16th century, and it consists of 30 sites in four countries. Stećaks (or medieval tombstones) are made of limestone and have a wide spectre of decorative motives and inscriptions,” Mashable wrote about stećaks in BiH and three other countries of the former Yugoslavia.

On the list of recommendations are also Philippi (Greece), remains of Ani (Turkey), cave complex Gorham (Gibraltar, Great Britain), aqueduct Kanat (Iran), megalith crypts Antequera (Spain), landscape Zuojiang (China), Nalanda Mahavihara (India) and Nan Madol (Micronesia).
