PotocariWith a minute of silence, a prayer and adequate religious program and the laying of flowers, the 13th anniversary of the opening of the Memorial Center Srebrenica-Potočari will be marked on Thursday, March 31.

President of the Association Mothers of Srebrenica Hatidža Mehmedović stated that the Memorial Center is a sacred place for all those who survived, reminding that many killed Bosniaks are still being searched for.

“The Memorial Center is our pilgrimage. Srebrenica is a symbol of suffering, our sorrow. It is a shame of the entire world, because the world could have prevented the genocide which occurred in Srebrenica,” Mehmedović said.

The Memorial Center was officially opened by the former US president Bill Clinton in September 2003. In March the same year, first six hundred of identified genocide victims were buried.

With successive burial of several hundreds of victims every year, this cemetery was established as a place for preserving the memory of the massacre in Srebrenica.

So far, 6.377 victims of genocide have been buried in the Memorial Center Potočari.

Since the establishment of this Center, the number of visits has been increasing every year: 154.010 visitors came to Potočari during last year.
