Students representing the Sarajevo Canton Mathematicians’ Association won two gold and three silver medals at the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad in Greece.
Vuk Janković achieved a historic result by winning first place with a maximum of 40 points, and he was the only one of 64 competitors in the official competition who managed to do so, and this only further strengthened his title as the most successful competitor in the history of BiH, the association announced.
Dino Ahić also achieved a sensational result, also winning a gold medal as a first-grade student.
Andrej Krčmar, Harun Memić and Adnan Osmić won silver medals, once again demonstrating their excellent knowledge.
The sixth competitor Faris Šabeta was only two points short of the bronze medal.
“It is important to emphasize that all six students have previously won medals in international competitions.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina team took an excellent second place in the competition of 11 countries (in the official competition). Only the Turkish team finished ahead of us, to whom we hereby congratulate. This is our best team placement in history at any Olympiad, and the first time that we have achieved a placement among the three best teams at the Balkan Games,” it was announced.
The students’ trip to Greece was financially supported by the Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton and the Republic Pedagogical Institute of Republika Srpska.
