Director of the Banking Agency of Republika Srpska Srđan Šuput emphasized that “Addiko Bank” clients shouldn’t fear the situation with Alta Bank.
“There were plans for Addiko Bank, but everything that is happening with Alta Bank in Serbia has no impact on Addiko Bank. Raiffeisen has taken over Addiko Bank in Vienna and, consequently, all banks in our region. The plan was not to retain banks in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. From the moment the Alta group’s work license was revoked, everything fell through. Raiffeisen is the owner, and this process is still ongoing,” he said during an appearance on RTRS.
He said that Raiffeisen Bank will make further decisions, but it has to obtain the approval of the supervisor.
“What is happening with Alta Bank in Serbia will have no impact on Republika Srpska,” he emphasized.
Media outlets published that Davor Macura, the owner of Alta Bank, was detained last night. The Executive Board of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) revoked the bank’s operating license and declared its bankruptcy due to, as announced, a significant deterioration in its financial condition and the endangerment of depositors’ interests.
To recall, the NBS announced on Saturday that it decided to shut down Alta Bank because the “financial situation of the bank has significantly deteriorated and there is a possibility of further deterioration,” including the deterioration of its liquidity.
