The Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, is making an official visit to Sarajevo this evening, Klix.ba learns.

This will be the first visit of a mayor of Rome to the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he will be welcomed by the mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić.

Roberto Gualtieri is an Italian historian, academic and politician from the Democratic Party. He has been the mayor of Rome since 2021, and he was the Minister of Finance of Italy in the second government of Giuseppe Conte from 2019 to 2021. Previously, he was a member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2019, and from 2014 to 2019, he also chaired it.

At the end of January this year, Karić was in Rome, where she signed the first agreement in history on cooperation between Rome and Sarajevo.

Now, Gualtieri is coming for a return visit with the aim of implementing the signed document.

At the January session of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo, a new statute of the city was voted and, accordingly, the mayor announced the revival of friendship and the strengthening of the position of the city of Sarajevo in the circles of European capitals.

Therefore, by signing this memorandum, an additional impulse was given to future concrete projects and plans of the two capitals.

“Culture, historical heritage, tourism, ecology, urban and technological development are links and opportunities for a better and more meaningful life for our citizens. Sarajevo and Rome, cosmopolitan cities, open-air museums, from today have a basis for better and better cooperation”, said the mayor of Sarajevo at that time.
