Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka met with judges of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Carmel Agius and Theodore Meron, at separate meetings that took place in The Hague.
They discussed the activities regarding the Information Center of the Hague Tribunal in Sarajevo. During the conversation, Mayor Skaka noted the historical importance and role of the ICTY, and he also emphasized that the City of Sarajevo has performed a series of steps regarding the preparation of the information center, which is very important for the entire region as well as for the process of reconciliation.
The Information Center was successfully established in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between The Hague Tribunal and the City of Sarajevo, which was signed on November 29, 2016.
The center will be placed in the City Hall and it will be supported by adequate equipment. The mandate of the Information Center in Sarajevo is to offer the public with an up-to-date, direct and secure electronic access to all available ICTY files and archive material that is contained in the online databases of the ICTY.
“The center will not represent just a passive guardian of the archive of the Hague Tribunal. This institution will have an educational, research, museum, archival and publishing role,” noted Mayor Skaka.
The official opening of the Information Center should take place in early 2018.
