McGuffie: There Is No More Time To Lose

The EU Delegation to BiH welcomes yesterday’s adoption of amendments to the Constitution of Canton Sarajevo, but at the same time expressed concern about the delay of the implementation of the “Sejdić-Finci” case that was brought to the European Court of Human Rights.

‘’We welcome all efforts to harmonize the electoral system and BiH institutions with The European Convention on Human Rights. Sarajevo canton’s decision yesterday also shows that it is possible to reach a consensus when there is political will’’, said Andy McGuffie, the spokesman for the EU Delegation for FENA.

However, he also stressed the deep concern of the EU Delegation of the continuing lack of harmonization of the BiH Constitution with the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the “Sejdić-Finci” case.

‘’There is no more time to waste. While the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH is intensifying efforts for all sides to reach an agreement, it is up to the local leaders to do their part of the job’’, said McGuffie.

McGuffie states that, as Štefan Fule, the European Commissioner for Enlargement said, the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and the Special Representative of the EU to BiH Peter Sorensen will undertake intensive efforts to help the sides reach an agreement on the amendments that will harmonize the BiH Constitution with the EU Convention on Human Rights.
