peretrojka-mediacentarMediacentar Sarajevo and Frontline Club London are organizing a debate called ‘Possibility of Political Action of Spectacle: Plenum Could be You?!’’. The debate will take place on 25 April starting at 19:00 on the premises of Mediacenter in Sarajevo.

‘’During the debate we will discuss how the current media system is available and open to new, progress ideas or actions that are not necessarily motivated by political or economic interests of the ruling elite’’, said Media Center.

The discussion will focus on the possibilities of political action in the media society of the spectacle in which we lie, on the question of whether the current media scene in B&H in general allows for the articulation of various public interests and ideas that advocate a change in the current system.

Focusing on the February protests, plenums and media reporting they will speak about how these events/actions in general can interact with the entertainment industry that dominates the media scene in B&H. Some trends indicate that even such movements throughout the world take on the tools of spectacles (celebrity culture, reality show formats, infotainment, etc.) in order to reach its audience. Should the terminology of class struggle be translated into a new vocabulary to become intelligible to an Internet generation and youth who grew up in a media culture of a reality show?

Participants in the debate will include dr. Damir Arsenijević, cultural theorist Aldin Arnautović, freelance journalist Vuk Bačanović, editor of magazine Dani dr. Mario Hibert, Faculty of Philosophy of Sarajevo. The moderator of the debate is Aida Kalender.

After the debate, there will be a concert by Zoster Peretrojka starting at 21:00.

Entrance to the debate and concert is free. Due to limited capacity of Mediacentar Sarajevo, it is necessary to announced arrival via email at kontakt@media.ba.
