save-aleppoProtest Sarajevo-Metropolises of the World for Aleppo and Syria will be held today at the plateau in front of the BBI Center, starting from 3 pm. The aim of this gathering, organized by associations of culture, civil societies, academic community and religious communities in BiH, is to support the people of Syria, especially in Aleppo, and to call on the citizens of European and world metropolises to join the active global campaign #StandWithAleppo.

The meeting of support will be broadcast directly on BHT1, while the same signal will be broadcast to the world public via Al Jazeera network.

President of the Bosnian Culture Community Preporod Prof. Dr. Senadin Lavić said that the city of Sarajevo possesses a major moral capacity to send the voice of reason into the world of the wars nowadays.

“That is a request for peace among people and for final realization that we must build cultures of peace which will mutually respect each other. Human life must become the biggest value for the entire mankind,” said Lavić and added that silence is a special form of complicity in the suffering of others.

Prof. Dr. Eli Tauber emphasized that this protest is aimed at encouraging other cities to launch such initiatives.

“The fact is that today we are in a situation where Holocaust is behind us and it is our duty to raise our voice and clearly say that it is time to end the suffering of people throughout the world. People have not reached in 1933 when the Holocaust began, or when the war ended. People haven’t reacted even when a genocide and mass crime occurred in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We want the mankind to be saved because if we finally don’t stop being those who stand aside peacefully, then the world will fall in even greater cataclysm,” said Tauber on behalf of the Jewish cultural-education and humanitarian society La Benevolencija.

“We wholeheartedly joined this initiative. As well as other participants, we do not want this gathering to be painted politically, but only in a humanitarian way. Tomorrow, all together, citizens of BiH, we raise our voice and hope that the world will hear us,” said Prof. Dr. Mato Zovkić on behalf of the Croatian Cultural Society Napredak.

Organization Board of the gathering invites all citizens of Sarajevo and BiH to join this protest. Eventually, the joint message by citizens of BiH will be officially forwarded to all embassies in BiH, the NATO alliance, the United Nations, the European Union and other relevant international organizations. Special traffic regime will be on force today in the city center from 3 pm to 4 pm.
