On Tuesday a member of the European Parliament and German diplomat Michael Gahler addressed questions in the European Parliament to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Presidency member Milorad Dodik, but also to Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) of BiH President Dragan Covic, where he pointed out the problems of the policies they lead as party leaders.
When it comes to Milorad Dodik, Gahler asked a question about his relationship with Lavrov, but also about the government’s policy in Republika Srpska (RS).
”I happened to be in Sarajevo on December 10th, and you gave a speech in Banja Luka that envisaged the exit of RS from BiH in six months. I ask you, do you still stick to that plan? Do you think that the European Union (EU) and the United States (U.S.) will allow that? Will they consider sanctions against you?”Gahler asked.
Afterward, he referred to Dodik’s meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Antalya.
”What did you talk about with Lavrov, did he promise you anything? Will you be recognized as the Banja Luka region, as Donetsk or Luhansk?” The EU parliamentarian pointed out.
After that, he referred to the work of Dragan Covic.
”Mr. Covic, thank you for condemning the attack on Ukraine on behalf of BiH, but what do you expect for Croats in BiH when you are so closely connected with Dodik, who is still connected with Putin. When I see how Croats live in RS, it must be a reason to distance oneself,” Gahler stated.
He also referred to the blockades within BiH institutions caused by HDZ policy.
”We in Parliament are frustrated with your issue, that you have been carrying out a blockade for many years in order to stay where you are. You probably don’t care whether or not there will be elections because you are already in your seats. However, citizens have the right to vote. I care about finding a solution, but it should be such that it unites people, not further divides them,” Gahler concluded.
