Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)met yesterday in Brussels with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

In a statement to the media, the chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Zeljka Cvijanovic, said that there was no talk of any sanctions or conditions, but there was talk of some kind of stimulation and encouragement from the officials of the European Union (EU).

”We agreed to have periodic meetings with Michel to keep him informed. There was a positive atmosphere, everyone understands the complexity of the situation in BiH. This was a meeting of encouragement on his part, so that we all understand how we should be part of the European family. That’s Michel’s message,” she pointed out.

When asked by reporter N1 whether there was talk of sanctions or possible “financial conditionality” of BiH entity Republika Srpska (RS), Cvijanovic replied that “the man never once mentioned sanctions.

“You cannot stimulate someone and then talk about sanctions,” she added.

Cvijanovic pointed out that there are “many disagreements” among the members of the Presidency of BiH, but that it is not right to show it in Brussels, but that the goal of such meetings is to “see what can be done together”.

Denis Becirovic spoke and said that everyone in BiH can be encouraged by his messages.

”He said that it is encouraging that BiH is moving towards EU membership on an accelerated path and that it is important that the country has received candidate status and that it is important to strengthen the dialogue in BiH in the coming period, but also the dialogue between BiH and the EU,” noted Becirovic.

As BiH Presidency member Zeljko Komsic told the media, that, for Michel, the purpose of this meeting was to check the readiness of the new convocation for concrete progress after the granting of candidate status to BiH. The progress will be discussed again in Brussels in October this year. Until then, according to Komsic, it is crucial to tackle three things.

Deadlines were not discussed yesterday.

“We need to do those three things as soon as possible,” said Komsic, adding that the proposals had already been before parliamentarians.
