The goal of the project is a permanent marking memory to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. Additionally, it was emphasized that all lessons from this tragic event should be taken, and that the events should not be forgotten.

The complex will include portal, paths and trees planted on an area of 4.3 hectares.

First hundred seedlings were planted in  March in the Memorial Forest at the locality of Posestre, Municipality of Goražde, where it is planned to plant 8.372 trees in memory of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.

Along with local officials, this event was attended by the mothers of Srebrenica, Mayor of the Srebrenica Municipality Ćamil Duraković, and the Reis ul-Ulema of the Islamic Community in BiH Husein Effendi Kavazović. In his addressing speech, Kavazović highlighted the importance of the complex as a symbol of resistance.

“This is another memory and fight against oblivion regarding what happened in Srebrenica. There is a connection between Goražde and Srebrenica and this is the right place. That is why I want to thank the Mufti, Mayor of the Goražde Municipality, Prime Minister of the Bosnia-Podrinje Canton and all of you who revived this idea in all of us. Brothers and sisters, our fight for the truth must endure, this is another spot from where we are sending the truth about us to the world,” said Kavazović.

“What Goražde is doing for Srebrenica especially makes us happy, the families of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. This is a proof that the fate of Srebrenica will not be forgotten,” said Munira Subašić, president of the Association Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves.

The project was initiated by the Muftijstvo Gorazde, and was supported by the Government of Bosnia-Podrinje Canton and the Municipality. The project has developed by a Public Enterprise Bosnia-Podrinje Forests Gorazde.
