13624599_1229134657137488_1971933675_nThe Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) from Stoke on Trent, England, built in that town a memorial for the victims of genocide in Srebrenica. The memorial was opened in Friday.

The memorial that stands as a memory of more than 8.000 killed Bosniaks, mostly adult men and boys, was designed by the members of the YMCA North Staffordshire and their colleagues from the University of Staffordshire, who previously visited Bosnia and Herzegovina and Srebrenica in order to learn more about the largest genocide on the European soil after the Second World War. The memorial is situated in front of the headquarters of the YMCA and it is built in the shape of the Srebrenica Flower

Aida Salkić-Haughton from the YMCA said that she is happy to be a part of the marking of the 21st anniversary of genocide in Srebrenica.

“We must learn young people that crime of hate can easily turn into something cruel and something that cannot be made right,” Salkić-Haughton said.

“We invite people from the region to join us and pay tribute to the victims,” Salkić-Haughton added. She has been investing lot of effort in order to make people in England aware of the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica.
