Mesic: Take Steps as soon as possible to help BiH join the EU

It would be good to take reasonable steps as soon as possible that can help Bosnia and Herzegovina join Euro-Atlantic integration as soon as possible, said former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.

He said this commenting on the “Appeal for the Salvation of BiH”, which he made together with the members of the last Presidency of the SFRY, Bogic Bogicevic and Vasil Tupurkovski.

He said that the situation was complex, but that it had not escalated dramatically and that it could “stretch in various negotiations”.

As a guest on the BIR television show “Aktuelno”, Mesic said that the appeal had gone to many addresses in Europe and the world, and that they had feedback.

“If nothing else, we will make people think. I thought we had to go for radical changes, because the situation that everything is being resolved in the nation has proven to be neither European nor democratic,” Mesic said.

He pointed out that BiH is not in the focus of the world public and that no efforts are being made to start processes, but said that international factors can be relieved of responsibility, because they go where it is urgent and where it is dangerous for world peace.

“For now, BiH is not a priority,” Mesic stressed.

He is of the opinion that the member of the Presidency of BiH, Milorad Dodik, is “an outspoken player, persistent, who takes on all the responsibility”.

“I think we must find the strength to eliminate such cases from politics,” Mesic said.

The position is that the model of solving problems in BiH should be changed, even if it was a change in the Dayton Agreement. Mesic’s proposal is a civil state, which was pointed out in the appeal.

“If BiH is a civil state, and not a state based on ethnicity, then it is in the model of other European states that are civil,” Mesic emphasized.
