Bosnian grouping of processors of dairy products Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina sent a letter to the competent institutions in respect of arrival of FVO Commission (Food and Veterinary Office) in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the spring of 2016 and the implementation of the necessary activities related to the undisturbed export of milk and milk products on the EU market.
In September this year, after two years of waiting, domestic dairies were given permission to export dairy products to the EU market, which is of great importance. As a reminder, milk and dairy products in the value of approx. 40 million BAM annually were exported to Croatia. However, it is difficult to determine real statistics, since the real picture cannot be obtained for two and a half months, which is the period of export of dairy products.
During September and October this year, dairy products worth 440.000 BAM, primarily cheese, UHT sterilized milk and yogurt were exported from Bosnia and Herzegovina to EU. According to recent estimates of FVO Commission, dairies have fulfilled all the requirements of the European Union. However, still remains the obligation of the responsible state and entity institutions to formally agree on the frame of the necessary legislative and legal framework until their next arrival by the spring of 2016. This is primarily related to the adoption of the Food Act, the Law on Veterinary Medicine and the Law on Agriculture of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
They note, if these three laws are not adopted on time, i.e. before the next visit of the Commission, we can certainly expect a delay in the export of dairy products to the EU market, and even a shutdown.
