Miners in Bosnia and Herzegovina continued Hunger Strike

In all seven coal mines that operate as part of the Elektroprivreda Bosnia and Herzegovina Concern, a one-hour warning strike was held this morning at 7 o’clock in solidarity with the miners from the Zenica mine, who stopped production on Friday afternoon, while a group of chambers is on hunger strike for the third day.

We would like to remind you that the reason for this is the unpaid salaries and allowances for hot meals, which the mine is unable to pay due to the blocking of the mine’s account by the Zenica City Administration. If the account is not unblocked by 3 p.m., they have announced new protests for tomorrow.

In the meantime, the umbrella mining union invited representatives of Elektroprivreda BIH, the Zenica mine and the City of Zenica to sign an agreement today that would define the obligations of the mine towards the city of Zenica in order to resolve the mine’s debt in the amount of 3 million marks.

The miners of the Kreka mine are among those who this morning went on a one-hour strike in solidarity with the miners of Zenica. If the situation does not improve today, tomorrow, they say, they will go to Zenica again to continue the protest. They will not stop, they explain, until the required conditions are met.
