Semiha BorovacThe Minister for Human Rights and Refugees Semiha Borovac said that it will certainly take at least four more years to complete the process of return to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The fact is that approximately 100.000 displaced persons remain to be settled”, said Borovac.

Answering to the reporters’ question on what are the necessary means to finalize the process of return to B&H, Borovac said that it is necessary to provide around 900 million BAM, and that the Ministry provided about 540 million BAM so far.

Speaking of the return process in Mostar, the minister pointed out that it is their desire to include everything that did not manage to be reconstructed or built in projects that will be carried out through the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees, adding that several projects are currently in progress: a regional housing fund, closing of the collective centers, IPA projects, Saudi Fund and the OPEC Fund.

“We know that in Mostar there is still a large number of people who claim and have needs for housing, while the property is almost completely restored. Our goal is to activate all of this, to accelerate because practically we are working on a new law on refugees and displaced persons which is to treat the sustainability of return more intensively, and we still have people who did not return to their pre-war homes”, said Borovac.

During the visit to Mostar, the Minister visited the Refugee-Reception Center, Readmission Center Salakovci and Roma settlement on Bišće polje, and also met with the Ombudsman for human rights for the City of Mostar, and the representatives from OSCE and citizens’ associations that monitor the return.
