The tourist season in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) flourished and a large number of visits from various countries were recorded. Data from the Agency for Statistics of BiH, in the period from January to June 2022, show that tourists made 594.485 visits, which is 77.8 percent more than in the same period last year.
A great incentive
When it comes to overnight stays, 1.295.674 overnight stays were realized, which is 68.3 percent more compared to the same period in 2021.
Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Edita Djapo stated that she is very satisfied with the tourist season.
”Our country is magical and has a lot to offer. We are getting information from the field that the entire summer is already booked. I am sure that this will be a good year, because everyone is eager to travel after COVID-19, especially our diaspora,” Djapo said.
In the past period, vouchers were available for domestic tourists. Although it was obvious that there was interest from citizens, no one expected that they would be sold out in record time.
”We did not expect this much interest from domestic tourists, and especially that the vouchers would be sold out in 24 hours on one platform, and on the other two in 48 hours. For the Government of the Federation of BiH (FBiH) and the relevant ministry, this is a great incentive and a sign that the program is well designed and recognized by our fellow citizens, and we receive praise every day for this form of support for domestic tourism,” minister Djapo emphasized.
BiH can become even more attractive for tourists, Djapo adds, and for BiH citizens as well, thanks to its beautiful landscapes, friendly hosts, and food.

”Also, these days we are witnessing the Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) as a very attractive manifestation of cultural tourism, and I cite this as a good example of the synergy of culture, tradition, and good tourist offer, as a package for attracting foreign as well as domestic tourists,” minister Djapo concluded.
Mostly from Serbia
In the structure of overnight stays by foreign tourists, the most overnight stays were made by tourists from Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Germany, Montenegro, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and the United States (U.S.). Regarding the length of stay of foreign tourists in our country, Kuwait is in the first place, followed by Ireland, France, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg, and China.
