Minister of Security: Prosecution is not working properly!

Dragan Mektić faktor.baAfter the collegiate of the office of acting chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH sent a letter to High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council because of the statement by the Minister of Security Dragan Mektić on the work of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, Mektić also reacted, stating that he is not applying any pressure on judicial institutions, but that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH is not working properly.

Mektić said that the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH does not have a single serious verdict when it comes to corruption.

“I have been calling on them for days to respond to the critics. I am monitoring the Prosecution’s reactions and whenever they are defending themselves they say ‘collegiate of the office’ and they protect themselves in that way. When something is positive, then the prosecutor brags about it personally. They are hiding behind the institution of the college of prosecutors. Why is there no fight against organized crime in the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH? I invite the chief prosecutor to respond to this question. They do not have a single serious verdict on corruption,” Mektić said.

Mektić said that he does not attack the independence of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH, but that it is absurd that this institution is not accountable towards anyone.

“I call on them to work and tell the citizens why the key cases are stalled. Those are cases such as Pandora, Bobar Bank, Pavlović Bank or Muehlbauer. They cannot complete anything and all I am asking for are final verdicts on corruption. The Prosecution affects me, they gather data on useless things about me in order to keep me quite with regard to certain affairs, but I invite them to come out and deny my statements,” said Mektić.

However, Mektić praised the work of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Sarajevo Canton on the fight against corruption and organized crime.

Mektić said that he is not applying political pressure on judiciary, but that all he wants is a transparent work of the Prosecution.

“If they are committed to working honorably and fairly in the fight against corruption, then politics can do nothing about that. I want to say that there is corruption and there is criminal in judicial institution and that was demonstrated with recent examples when judges or prosecutors were found involved in certain affairs,” Mektić said.
