Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania issued a warning on January 29th for all citizens planning to travel to Bosnia-Herzegovina because of high levels of pollution.

Such alerts are most commonly issued in cases of danger to citizens’ security related to war zones, terrorist attacks, or extreme weather.

“This is another confirmation of the seriousness of the air pollution problem and an indicator that, in addition to the most important consequences for the health of citizens, it has a great impact on the economy of Bosnia-Herzegovina,” said Igor Kalaba, an assistant at the Energy and Climate Change Program at the Environmental Center.

The warning states that air pollution in BiH is high and advises Romanian citizens to be informed of the pollution levels and dust concentrations before traveling, and citizens who suffer from respiratory disorders are advised to avoid traveling to Sarajevo.

“Bearing in mind that no weather changes are expected in the coming period, which could significantly reduce the level of pollution, the Government of the Canton of Sarajevo and the local Institute of Public Health recommend that citizens leave their homes as little as possible,” according to the warning, Avaz news portal reports.

Romanian citizens are advised to consult the Airnow website to obtain updated information regarding pollution levels and dust concentrations per hour. Citizens suffering from respiratory disorders are advised to avoid traveling to Sarajevo in the winter as much as possible.
