The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that in the past period, in cooperation with competent institutions and agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it coordinated activities to resolve the status of the international border crossing Gradiška – Stara Gradiška and the newly built border crossing Gradiška Novi Most – Gornja Varoš, on the state border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.

In this regard, and at the previous request of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Administration for Indirect Taxation, the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, due to the collapse of a part of the protective fence of the bridge and the need to divert traffic from the international border crossing Gradiška – Stara Gradiška, and considering that at that time the new Agreement on border crossings between BiH and the Republic of Croatia had not been signed, issued a Decision temporarily enabling international traffic of passengers and goods at the site of the new bridge in Gradiška.

The decision was made after collecting the necessary opinions and consents of the competent authorities, i.e. the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Directorate for Indirect Taxation, with a deadline of August 19 this year at 7 p.m.

In this regard, the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina has prepared and sent Information to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the status of the international border crossings Gradiška – Stara Gradiška and Gradiška Novi Most – Gornji Varoš.

The information informed the BiH Council of Ministers about the impossibility of legally extending the decision and prepared a Proposal for the Decision on the temporary closure of the border crossing of the international border crossing Gradiška – Stara Gradiška.

At the same time, the BiH Council of Ministers informed that in the meantime a new Agreement on border crossings between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia had been signed, which began with temporary application on June 8 of this year, with the mutual obligation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia to deploy police, customs and inspection officers in order to carry out controls, as prescribed by the agreement and domestic legislation that treats the area in question.

“The aforementioned information and the proposed Decision were considered at the session of the Council of Ministers of BiH held on August 19, 2026. year, but were not adopted. In connection with the above, we appreciate that the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina has taken all measures and exhausted all possibilities within its jurisdiction in the past period. The Ministry of Security of BiH expects the competent services and agencies responsible for border control to act in accordance with the aforementioned international agreement and regulations within their jurisdiction,” stated in a press release from the Ministry of Security of BiH.
