Mogherini: The Pace of EU Rapprochement depends on BiH

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, said for Radio and Television of BiH (BHRT) that the timeframe for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in the Enlargement Strategy is not important at all. When our country will move toward the EU with the bigger steps only depends on our politicians.

“Time is not crucial here. It could be short or long period. If you give me an answer to the questionnaire tomorrow, we will send you an opinion on the candidacy in a couple of months. Things can go really fast. If you give me the answers for a year from now, everything will go slower. The important thing is to arrange everything that is necessary to be done, “ Mogherini said.

She stressed that she has an understanding of the fact that the elections will be held this year in BiH, but notes that BiH citizens want the process of EU rapprochement to be continued.

“I believe that people in BiH, especially the young generation, know when the compromises need to be done, and are aware that the European agenda is more important than the divisions, “ Mogherini emphasized.

She confirmed that the need to overcome the divisions had also been passed to the three-member state presidency, and that she underlined the need to express political courage in that process.

“Every time they have done it in the past three years, they have had the results. Now they should do something similar with the Election Law, since everything depends on the political leaders. It is very important issue for me, because we can help and give a support. Also, we are present in the field. The power to reach a solution lies in the hands of BiH, “ the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini said for BHRT.
