The mosque was built in 1570 by Sinan Bey Boljanic, who later received the title of pasha, but it remained as the mosque of Sinan Bey, one of the many pearls of Ottoman architecture in the area of Gorazde. Building of the mosque, two turbe and fountain in its harem were demolished on the 8th of June, 1992.

“Due to historical and artistic values, it is classified in the first category of World Heritage sites and was declared as a national monument in 2004. Its reconstruction will mean the beginning of the end of construction of religious buildings that were demolished during the aggression on BiH, in the area of Gorazde,” said Remzija ef. Pitic, Mufti of Gorazde.

Before laying the foundation stone for a mosque in Cajnice, many preparation needed to be done. They prepared the project documentation, cleared the terrain, foundations of the mosque were covered with a large layer of dirt and garbage and they needed to obtained all necessary approvals for the reconstruction of the mosque.

“Most of the things were done by Majlis of IC Cajnice, Sacir Rascic and our Waqf Directorate as well as the previous Mufti Hamed Efendic, so we are now, thank God, in a position to officially start the construction of this beautiful facility,” said Pitic.

In Cajnice is expected arrival of a large number of the faithful to attend the laying of the foundation stone and reading hair prayers on Sunday.

“We expect members of our dzemat to join us to officially mark this solemn moment, which is very important for us. It’s not only the mosque, the building or monument of Ottoman architecture, it’s much more than that. Cajnice will no longer be the same city. Bosniaks in Cajnice will have its own symbol, pride and dignity,” said mufti Pitic.

The funds for the reconstruction of the mosque of Sinan Pasha Boljanic were ensured by the Directorate General of Waqfs (Foundations) in Turkey in cooperation with the Waqf of the Islamic Community in BiH. It is estimated that reconstruction could take up to 3 years.
