In the area of Bijeljina, due to the emergence of African swine fever, the number of euthanized animals is more than 400, in 16 households where euthanasia was performed earlier and 11 more where it will be done today, said Mayor Ljubiša Petrović.
The place for the sanitary burial of pigs is on a plot in Gornji Dragaljevac, where after clearing the ground, a protective fence will be installed.
Disinfection barriers have been installed at eight locations, and the procurement of 60 more of these barriers is in progress, as well as the additional procurement of 400 liters of disinfectants.
“It was agreed with members of the Communal Police to intensify patrolling of local roads and canals in case of negligent dumping of dead pigs, which was the case, unfortunately,” Petrović said on social media.
He appealed again that citizens should not dispose of dead pigs by themselves and not throw them uncontrolled, pointing out that there have been such cases.
“Thus, you will be a direct accomplice in the spread of African swine fever and you will be held criminally responsible,” Petrović said.
He stated that a meat sample was sent to the Veterinary Institute of the Republika Srpska “Dr Vaso Butozan” and no African swine fever virus was detected.
