More than 20,000 overnight stays were realized in Sarajevo Canton during the New Year’s holidays, in which, although there was no public reception in the open, a large number of tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, but also from more than 70 countries, said the Canton Tourist Board Sarajevo (TZKS).

The largest number of tourists who celebrated the New Year in Sarajevo and enjoyed the winter holidays were from neighboring Croatia, followed by other countries in the region: Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, but also the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Turkey, Austria, Macedonia, Sweden, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, etc.

It is interesting that a large number of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina chose Sarajevo as their New Year’s destination, which is the best indicator of strengthening domestic tourism.

More than 95 percent of overnight stays were realized in hotel accommodation, and direct benefits from tourists also had caterers, traders, tourist workers and all related activities that generate income from tourism.

In addition to the diverse offer of music and entertainment provided by numerous restaurants, the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton and OC Bjelašnica this year offered tourists and locals something completely new – New Year’s Eve on skis.

The full streets of the city and the satisfaction of tourists are a good indicator that the tourism sector is recovering, and in 2022 we will continue with activities to develop and improve the tourist offer and promote Sarajevo Canton as an attractive tourist destination, according to TZKS.
