How much will the Prices of Electricity Actually go up?

MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAIf the Energy Regulatory Commission accepts the demands of enterprises from the system of Elektroprivreda RS, the prices electricity in RS will go up more than it was announced. As a reminder, the announced increase in electricity prices in the RS should amount to 10 percent for households, or 19 percent for businesses. However, the electricity will be even more expensive.

The reason for this is the VAT calculated on the price of electricity consumption. In other words, if the household electricity price increases for announced 9.1 percent, households will in the summer season rate, according to the average consumption, pay 44 BAM for electricity. On that price, 17 percent VAT is then calculated, so that the final bill will amount 51 BAM. Account will be even greater in the winter months, when power is “more expensive” anyway.

Representatives of consumer associations said that any increase in electricity prices is not an option, because households and entrepreneurs cannot endure. President of the Employers Union of RS Dragutin Škrebić stressed that there is no reason for the increase in electricity prices in the RS.

“The argument of the RS authorities is always the same – electricity is cheaper here. Well, oil is the cheapest in Saudi Arabia, because they export it. The standard is such that the citizens will not be able to pay those bills, and businessmen will have no other choice but to reduce workers’ salaries if there is indeed a price rise. Who wants that? “, asks Škrebić.
