13236322_1771992279704115_328626629_nGorazde will, following the example of other BiH cities, get a museum soon.

It is planned for the museum to be part of the local Cultural Centre, and part of ethnological setting and reconstruction of old Bosnian life in the house of Mujkovic’s family which will, after the restoration, become an annex of the museum, a special wing with ethnological setting.

Mujkovic’s house is one of rarely preserved old Bosnian houses in Gorazde, on the left bank of the Drina River.

“It has a great ambience and architectural value, and it represents an excellent example of architecture during the Ottoman rule in BiH. A few months ago, I proposed consolidation and conservation of the house as well as to set ethnological display in the future and show the life before some 200 to 250 years in Bosnian houses to the public, “said Admir Dzemidzic, archaeologist-curator at the Cultural Center.

Foundation “Cultural Heritage without Borders” will ensure part of the funds for the restoration of the house, while the other part will be financed by the Foundation of Prince Klaus. It is a sum of 25.000 EUR in total. The contribution to the establishment of the Regional Museum in Gorazde is conservation of exhibits, preventive adaptation of space, and education of young professionals in the field of cultural heritage. The project has a regional character, since besides BiH and Gorazde it includes activities in Albania and Kosovo as well.

At the time when for it is difficult for museums to survive, the idea of its establishment in Gorazde is a remarkable example. This was also recognized by the citizens who joined the campaign “I am for the museum in Gorazde,” and some of them even gave exhibits with historic value from their own collections. Centre now has a solid collection of mainly archaeological items.

From the Municipality of Gorazde announced that the museum will be opened on the 18th of September, on the Day of the Municipality and BPK Gorazde.
