Having held a guilty plea agreement consideration hearing, on 17 April 2019 the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered a judgment finding the accused Munib Ahmetspahić guilty of the criminal offense of Organizing a Terrorist Group under Article 202d(2) as read with Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CC BiH), all in conjunction with the criminal offense of Terrorism under Article 201 of the Code. The Court sentenced him to 3 (three) years of imprisonment.
Munib Ahmetspahić has been found guilty that for the purpose of joining the terrorist organizations of “Jabhet al Nusra“, “Al-Nusrah Front“ and “ISIL“ he travelled to the war theater in Syria on two occasions with the intention to fight on the side of the so-called Islamic State, organized in the territory of Iraq and Syria. He became a member of the terrorist organizations of “Jabhet al Nusra“, “Al-Nusrah Front“ and “ISIL“ which have been placed on the consolidated list of persons and entities connected with Al Qaida, drawn up by the UN Security Council Committee. The goal of these organizations is to destabilize and forcibly change Syria’s political and constitutional system. Based on Resolution R-1267 dated 1999, on 30 May 2013 the organizations were listed as terrorist groups and organizations by the UN Security Council, whose members, by way of daily armed actions, specifically attacks on the population, killing, unlawful detention, hostage-taking and other acts, aim to force Syria’s legitimate authorities to change the constitutional system and political regime.
At the same time, the Court issued a ruling to order the accused Munib Ahmetspahić into continued custody, which under the ruling may not exceed 9 (nine) months, specifically until 17 January 2020, or until the Court issues a new ruling, but not longer than the expiry of the imposed sentence of imprisonment.
