The Appellate Division of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) issued yesterday a second-instance verdict in which Alisa Mutap and Hasan Dupovac were found guilty of concealing evidence in the case of the death of Dzenan Memic in 2016, and the father of the victim, Muriz Memic, reacted to this.
Memic said that he had been saying all along that there would be justice and that he had finally met it.
“We have been waiting for this from the beginning after five proceedings, but now the Appellate Division has shown that there is justice in this country, and we will continue. I want tothank lawyer Ifet Feraget, but also Gordana Tadic. Also, thank you Kajganic, but many thanks to Cazim Hasanspahic and Dubravko Campara,” said Memic.
Commenting on those acquitted in this proceeding, Memic pointed out that his lawyer Ifet Feraget will explain it better.
“I am generally satisfied, the main culprit, Alisa Mutap, said that she is the most famous, and I know that those people get various awards, and she got two years and six months in prison. Likewise, Hasan Dupovac will never be a police officer again. It is a great success for the state. This is proof that we did not lie,” he said.
He also addressed Mirsad Dzelilovic to whom he told him that there would be no party last night.
“Hasan Dupovac is going to prison. The whole time that man was saying that we were lying. We said that we are not lying and we are moving on,” he stated.
Speaking about the “amnesia” of Alisa Mutap, Memic emphasized that he knew that she did not have it.
“We all knew that she didn’t have it and that she was lying. It was proven in the end and that’s why she’s going to prison,” he concluded.
The sister of the victim Dzenan, Arijana Memic, recalled how Arijana said in the hospital, while Dzenan was alive, “Dad, call your people and fix this”.
“On the one side, for seven years there was a father who had his people, but he didn’t manage to ‘fix it’. On the other side, there was a father who didn’t have his people, but he had love, faith, and strength for his child and managed to solve everything,” Arijana said.
She added that she has now heard comments that people are not satisfied with the length of these sentences.
“I’m just saying, if we weren’t there, there wouldn’t even be a ‘minimum sentence’. We’re satisfied with this. God’s will is above everything,” she told.
To recall, Alisa Mutap was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, and Hasan Dupovac to three years in prison.
Zijad Mutap, Hasan Dupovac, Alisa Mutap (Ramic), Josip Baricand Muamer Ozegovic were accused in the indictment of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office of joining an organized crime group, which was formed by Zijad Mutap in order to cover up the evidence of the way in which Dzenan Memic sustained severe, life-threatening injuries on February 8th, 2016, as a result of which he died.
Hasan Dupovac and Alisa Mutap were found guilty of all charges except for organized crime. It is important to mention that the suspect Zijad Mutap and his daughter Alisa did not attend yesterday’s sentencing, Klix.ba reports.
