National Assembly of Republika Srpska calls an extraordinary Session

The Collegium of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NARS) has called an extraordinary session of the entity parliament for today at 4 p.m. with one item on the agenda, which concerns the veto of the Chairperson of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović.

The President of the NARS Nenad Stevandić stated that this is, as he said, a controversial conclusion of the Presidency of BiH, which has a set of eight parts.

Cvijanović was outvoted and vetoed, which the RS deputies now need to decide on.

In order for the conclusion of the Presidency of BiH to be invalid, a two-thirds majority in the NARS is required, which the parliamentary coalition does not have. Therefore, the support of the opposition is required.

“We cannot fathom the intentions of the members of the Presidency of BiH, Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić, who are trying to drag EUFOR into a political crisis. In doing so, EUFOR has declared itself incompetent,” said Stevandić.

When asked if he knew how the opposition would vote, Stevandić said that they had supported the session at the Collegium.

“I don’t believe they will be so naive and support Bećirović and Komšić,” said Stevandić.

The head of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) parliamentary group in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ognjen Bodiroga, said that the party would “act patriotically” at this session.

“There is no doubt that the SDS will show patriotism, and that we will try to explain our view of the current situation through arguments and discussion,” said Bodiroga.

He stressed that the SDS will always protect the territory and institutions of the Republika Srpska.

PDP MP in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Mirna Savić Banjac believes that outvoting in any form and in any parliament should not be the way of functioning.

She announced that joint conclusions from the opposition regarding today’s extraordinary session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia can also be expected.

“We must constantly keep in mind who created this crisis and that we in the opposition are constantly trying to minimize the damage,” said Savić Banjac.
