una riverNational Park “Una“ received prestigious certificate for sustainable tourism from the Federation of Nature and National Parks of Europe (EUROPARC), announced the spokesperson of the World Wildlife Fund Petra Boić- Petrač.

”These are the great news for parks, because this is the way how they are included in map of areas in Europe that are target for the visitors and something that cannot be left out while planning a trip,” said Boić-Petrač.

”Official handover of certificate to Amarildo Mulić, Director of ‘Una’ National Park and other directors of the parks that received certificate for sustainable tourism, will take place on December 12th in the European Commission in Brussels,” said Boić-Petrač.

“Una“ NP has been recognized by WWF and EUROPARC Federation as a park with a clear vision and perspective, especially results which have been achieved in the last three years with partners.

”By winning certificate for sustainable tourism, ‘Una’ NP and BiH will be on the world tourist map of protected areas. It is one of the strongest references, because out of total number of tourist movements, more than 30 percent have been visits to protected areas in the world,” Amarildo Mulić, Director of “Una” National Park told FENA earlier.

In March 2013, “Una” National Park was admitted to membership of EUROPARC Federation, which brings certain benefits for protection and sustainable development of the area and the region.

Documentation which was necessary to apply for the certificate, was submitted in February this year, and world experts in area of environment and sustainable development paid a final visit to “Una” NP in July.

EUROPARC (Federation of Nature and National Parks of Europe) was formed in 1973 to support protection and preservation of original beauty of protected areas in Europe.

EUROPARC Federation is closely connected to programs and projects of the European Commission which concern environmental protection, where function of EUROPARC as an umbrella organization is to organize network of protected areas of “the Old Continent” in sense of strengthening cooperation, exchange of experiences between management and staff of protected areas and promotion of their activities.
