NATO Official From Brussels: We Have Plans For Lasting Security In BiH

We will not allow a security vacuum to emerge, nor will we allow the hard-won peace to be jeopardized, and we have plans to ensure lasting security throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), a NATO official from Brussels stated for Avaz.

“NATO’s commitment to BiH and the commitment of all allies, including the United States (U.S.), to regional stability remains firm,” said an unnamed NATO official asked to comment on the new U.S. law, which specifically also addresses strengthening NATO headquarters in Sarajevo.

“Threats of secession, internal political struggles, retrograde and nationalist ideas are destabilizing and dangerous,” the official said.

“We will not allow, the message is clear, a security vacuum to emerge, nor will we allow the hard-won peace to be endangered, and we have plans to ensure lasting security throughout BiH.”

In the statement, officials from the Alliance’s headquarters call on all political leaders to make “genuine efforts to move reforms forward for the benefit of all citizens and to contribute to reconciliation, lasting peace, and good-neighborly relations.”

“This is crucial for the security of BiH and for regional stability,” NATO said.

It was particularly emphasized that NATO is deepening political dialogue and practical cooperation with BiH, among other things, through the daily activities of NATO headquarters in Sarajevo, as well as in particular through the Political Engagement Support Cell, and through the recently approved Individually Tailored Partnership Programme (ITPP).
