New 238 Cadets of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs Police Academy Officially Take the Oath

The ceremonial oath-taking was held yesterday in Ilidza for 238 cadets of the XLVI generation who successfully completed training for the rank of “policeman” at the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs Police Academy, and who will enter into employment in the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Canton Sarajevo (CS).

The Prime Minister of CS, Nihad Uk, stated that being a policeman in Sarajevo means more than just wearing a uniform – it means bearing responsibility for the security and honor of the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

He emphasized that the Government of CS has committed itself to building a police force that is qualitatively and quantitatively the best in BiH and the region and has launched serious processes – from the recruitment of new personnel, restoring dignity to the rank and advancement, to investing in equipment.

“Dear cadets, today you take on great responsibility because you are expected to be guardians of order and security, but also of trust, justice, and dignity,” Uk said yesterday, congratulating them and wishing them all the best in their careers.

The Chairman of the CS Assembly, Elvedin Okeric, reminded that about ten years ago, individuals in responsible positions degraded the police in CS to the extent that they employed illegally, promoted officers without formal-legal conditions, covered up the responsibility of individuals even for the gravest criminal acts, while material-technical resources were not procured nor was there will to prevent mass car thefts and robberies of citizens.

“After we strongly opposed such phenomena, today before us stand police officers who were admitted because they were the best, and I am proud and happy to have the opportunity to welcome this new generation,” Okeric said yesterday.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of CS, Admir Katica, told them that they are in that place today because, through their own knowledge, effort, and abilities, they earned the opportunity to become policewomen and policemen of the CS Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“We gave you the opportunity to get this honorable job through the fairest and most transparent procedures in BiH because we freed the employment processes of any kind of interventions and pressures,” Katica said.

He emphasized that from 2023 until today, the CS Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the support of the CS Government, employed 461 new police officers, and their goal is to have a total of 1.000 new police officers by the end of 2026.

The Commissioner of the CS Ministry of Internal Affairs, Fatmir Hajdarevic, said that the police is much more than a uniform, a badge, and authority, and that it represents the trust of citizens, the state, and colleagues, which must be earned by deeds and dignity.

He underlined that the best among us are those who know how to recognize a person with a problem, who know how to listen and understand, and those who will not leave a colleague behind.
