Taiwan today condemned China’s new military maneuvers around the island days after the inauguration of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te.
The spokeswoman for the Taiwanese president said that Taipei, “in the face of external challenges and threats, will continue to defend democracy”.
She assessed the Chinese maneuvers as “provocative military behavior”. “China is engaging in unilateral and provocative military behavior that threatens Taiwan’s democracy and freedom, as well as regional peace and stability,” the spokeswoman added.
China launched large-scale military maneuvers around Taiwan today as “a harsh punishment for the separatist actions of Taiwan’s independence forces and a stern warning against interference and provocation by outside forces,” a spokesman for the Chinese military’s Eastern Command said.
