Due to the rise in oil prices on the world market, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are expecting a new increase in fuel prices. Distributors in both entities point out that a price increase of five to 10 pfennigs is inevitable and that the correction will depend on the expiration of stocks. Citizens are outraged because they expect the increase in fuel prices to cause a wave of price increases in long-term goods and services.

At gas stations in the Republika Srpska, new prices for oil and petroleum products. A few days ago, the fuel price went up by 10 pfennigs. Distributors from both entities have bad news for drivers. They expect a new price increase of 5 to 10 pfennigs.

In the Association for Consumer Protection, they consider frequent fuel price increases unjustified. They ask what happens to stocks when they raise pump prices as soon as the world stock market jumps.

MURISA MARIĆ, President of the Association for Consumer Protection “Don”

“This will be a very good excuse for many to raise prices in the coming period and there will be a lot of work for the inspection bodies. We have witnessed for years that it is easier to pay a fine than to return the prices to the previous ones.”

In the Federal Association of Distributors of Oil and Oil Derivatives, they point out that prices are rising on the world market for the third Sunday and that only in the following days are they planning an inevitable increase at the pumps in the Federation.

MILENKO BOŠKOVIĆ, Association of Petroleum Derivatives Traders FBiH

“There are pumps that consume one tank per month, and there are those that consume two per week. The rate at which supplies are consumed, because the price is formed by the estimated price of supplies plus the allowed margin of 25 pfennigs. As each pump consumes its inventory, it will form new prices.”

His colleague from Republika Srpska claims that there is no hunting in the dark when it comes to price formation. Lower fuel prices at gas stations in the Prijedor region compared to the Banja Luka competition.

ĐORĐE SAVIĆ, Chairman of the Oil and Oil Derivatives Trade Group of the RS

Local competition and nothing else. There is a conflict between them and they compete to sell cheaper and those are the only reasons.

In both Associations of Oil and Oil Derivatives Distributors, they point out that the distributor’s margins are below the allowed 25 pfennigs per liter, and that the pace of stock consumption depends on when the price will rise.
