New Highway Opens, Halving Travel Time Between Sarajevo and Belgrade

The Sabac-Loznica expressway, spanning 54.5 kilometers, was opened yesterday in the presence of Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic.

Vucevic began a tour of the new section alongside media representatives. The Sabac-Loznica expressway is part of the larger project to construct the Ruma-Sabac-Loznica highway.

Prime Minister Vucevic stated that the Sabac-Loznica expressway would open for traffic today at 9:00 a.m. and emphasized that citizens would be able to travel from Loznica to Belgrade in just one hour and 15 minutes.

“Starting tomorrow at 9:00 a.m., this section will be in use. This is the longest section we are opening at once. We’ve opened longer highways before, but always in multiple parts, sections, or lots. For the first time, we are putting 54.5 kilometers into service in one go,” Vucevic told reporters yesterday on a bus during the road tour.

He added that the entire Podrinje region will now be better connected and no longer isolated, making this part of the country far more accessible and safer for travel.

It’s worth noting that the journey from Sarajevo to Loznica currently takes about three hours. This means the total travel time from Sarajevo to Belgrade will now be around 4 hours and 20 minutes, instead of the previous 4 hours and 50 minutes.
