The biometric ID cards, which the relevant interior ministries began to receive requests on 1 March of this year, represents one of the phases of improving security of the system of ID cards.
The new ID cards differ from the old ones by providing new features such as blood type and entity citizenship, and digital signatures that would be used for electronic identification.
The ID card contains an electronic memory chip that is in the process of personalization and has cryptic protection, and the code for the type of document in order to be used for travel outside of BiH.
This means that the ID card can function as a travel document.
