Director of Directorate for Roads of Sarajevo Canton Adem Zolj and directors of consortium of companies Euroasfalt and ŽGP Hamed Ramić and Haris Kuskunović visited the reconstructed Stup loop in Sarajevo and the underpass and announced solemn opening on Thursday.
”After forty years Stup loop is being completed and there will no longer be traffic congestion,” emphasized Zolj.
He emphasized he expected the Public Company “Ceste” (Roads) of the Federation of BiH to complete their part of Sarajevo bypass and that LOT 2 would be opened in the next few days, adding that Sarajevo Canton did their part of the job faster.
”We insist on completion of Sarajevo bypass and with these works on Stup loop we solved the problem of congestion, but we have not solved the problem of congestion in Rajlovac – Sarajevo bypass will solve that problem once it is completed,” he said.
He emphasized that Stup loop is the most complex project in BiH, because around 60.000 vehicles and thousands of citizens use that section every day, adding there is a tram track and many installations there and all weaknesses of state institutions, such as illegal facilities and unregistered lots.
”Traffic is operating normally in four lanes at the loop, whereas there are six lanes at the main longitudinal road. But I am really happy we built an underpass,” emphasized Zolj.
He added the underpass was not planned, but it had to be built to solve the problem of pedestrians.
”There were always car accidents here and mostly pedestrians got hurt. With this underpass we will solve that problem and we hope citizens will get use to it. This is the first underpass with escalators in BiH,” he added.
Zolj emphasized that terminal for charging GRAS tickets will be built in the underpass and that it will be secured by ten cameras set by the Ministry of Interior of SC.
”Do not destroy property at Stup loop because it is out way to Europe,” he said.
He announced the underpass will be opened on Thursday, whereas the rest of the works will be completed by the end of construction season, which is November.
