North Korea conducted a test of a strategic cruise missile, North Korean media reported on Sunday.

This is the first missile test by Pyongyang since Donald Trump returned to the White House last Monday.

“The test, overseen by the country’s leader Kim Jong Un, aims to enhance the nation’s defensive capabilities,” stated a South Korean news agency.

Details of the missile’s specifications and the exact location of the test have not been disclosed.

The launch marked North Korea’s third missile test in 2025, following several short-range ballistic missiles fired into the East Sea on January 14th and a hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile on January 6th.

The test comes as Trump began his second presidential term and signaled openness to reviving dialogue with Pyongyang.

Trump and Kim met three times during the United States (U.S.) president’s first term.
